Privacy Notice
Effective date: September 27, 2026
Who we are
You-thon is a service for creating personal challenges that raise money for charities. It is operated by Alterna Dev Studio ("we", "us"). This notice explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run You-thon:
- Account details: your email address, your first and last name, a short bio and profile photo if you add them, your time zone, the challenge and reminder times you choose, and your notification preferences.
- Challenge content you create: challenge titles and descriptions, daily progress logs, and photos you upload.
- Pledges and donations: the amounts you pledge or donate and the challenges and charities they support.
How we use it
- To run the service: show your challenges, record your progress, and track pledges and donations.
- To send you notifications, such as reminders and updates about challenges you host or support. You control which emails you receive.
- To process payments and donations.
- To prevent fraud and abuse and to keep the service secure.
- To find and fix errors.
What other people can see
- Published challenge pages are public. Anyone can see a published challenge's title, description, charity, progress, daily logs and photos, and its number of pledgers and total pledged.
- People who pledge to your challenge see your name as its host.
- When you pledge to a challenge, its host sees your name and your pledge.
- We never show your email address to other users.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run You-thon, and only as much as each one needs:
- Stripe processes card payments. Your card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
- Every.org receives and delivers donations to the charities you choose.
- Migadu (Migadu-Mail GmbH, Switzerland) delivers our emails: account emails such as sign-up verification and password resets, and the notifications you choose to receive.
- Fly.io hosts the application and its databases.
- Tigris stores the photos you upload.
- GlitchTip receives error reports when something goes wrong, so we can fix it. A report contains technical details about the error, such as the page or request involved and your browser.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Cookies and browser storage
We store a small amount of information in your browser so the app works: your sign-in session, your light or dark theme choice, and when you last skipped a daily progress reminder. We do not use advertising cookies. Stripe may set its own cookies on payment pages to prevent fraud.
Your choices
- Change which emails you receive in your profile's notification preferences, or use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Update your account details at any time from your profile.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing us at the address below.
Children
You-thon is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this notice and its effective date.
